FAQ
When does menopause start?
Menopause starts when you’ve not had a period for 12 consecutive months. According to the NHS, the average age women in the UK start menopause is 51, but it can start earlier or later.
Perimenopause is the phase leading to menopause, and is when you’ll experience most of the symptoms associated with menopause, such as night sweats, brain fog and irregular periods.
Is osteoporosis common during menopause?
Women can be at an increased risk of osteoporosis after menopause due to the impact it can have on bone health. It is advisable for women to regularly test bone health biomarkers during this period of their life.
How long does menopause last?
Menopause is a point in time, marked by not having had a period for 12 consecutive months. The phase after menopause is called postmenopause and lasts for the rest of your life.
Before you reach menopause, you’ll go through a phase called perimenopause. This can last up to 10 years, during which your periods will become irregular as you transition to menopause.
Can I take this test if I'm on HRT?
Yes. This test is suitable for women who are on HRT. It is also useful for understanding if you are on the right dose of HRT as it measures your levels of oestrogen. Repeating the test over time will enable you to see if your oestrogen levels are declining further, requiring a possible change in your HRT dose.
When do I need to take the test?
If you’re still having periods, collect your blood sample on the 3rd day of your period. If you no longer have periods, you can take the test at any time.
When To Take The Test
We recommend you take this test between day 1 and 5 of your menstrual cycle (day 1 being the first day of your period). If you are not having a period, take the test at anytime.
IMPORTANT: If you're using a hormone gel or cream, we would highly recommend the sample is collected via a phlebotomy draw (blood drawn via a vein) due to the risk of contamination. Please reach out to us, and we will arrange this for you.
Important information regarding corrected calcium
Our labs have conducted stability validation on all the markers offered by Forth. Corrected Calcium has a shorter stability time than the majority of markers of around 2 – 3 days. Forth provides a Tracked 24 return envelope in all kits to return samples to the lab within 24 hours. In the majority of cases, samples are returned within the stability time. If a sample arrives outside this time, this result will not be provided to you.
What happens after I place my order for a blood test?
We have partnered with Forth to offer insightful, doctor-reviewed at-home blood tests, analysed in NHS-accredited labs. After purchase, your test kit will be sent to you within 3–5 working days. Each kit includes a 'Lab Request Form' with an activation link and unique code. Log on to the website to activate your account, where you can provide relevant information about your health.
Providing as much detail as you feel comfortable is highly recommended, as it enables specialist doctors to deliver personalised and comprehensive analysis. For example, sharing whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or managing specific health conditions allows the doctors to tailor their insights to your circumstances.
Once you collect your sample, we strongly encourage you to activate your account before sending your blood samples and ensure they are sent back to the lab as soon as possible and within 24 hours, especially for the Menopause Blood Test. This helps guarantee the most accurate results. You will be notified as soon as your results are ready by email or text.
How soon will the test arrive?
All our kits are sent out via Royal Mail first class post, so it should be with you within 3-5 working days.
Does a doctor review my results?
We have a team of doctors and nurses who look at all results and will comment on any results that are outside of the normal range for your age.
